Dr. Dean P. Lyons received a B.S. degree from the University of Iowa, graduating with honors and elected to Omicron Delta Kappa, a national scholastic and leadership society. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine. He completed a year of medical internship at the Gunderson Clinic, La Crosse, Wisconsin. This was followed by a year of general surgery residency training at the University of Minnesota.
The four year specialty training in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery was completed at the University of Minnesota. While there, Dr. Lyons obtained a Master’s Degree writing his thesis on hearing research. During that period he was elected to Phi Kappa Phi, a graduate level society for scholastic excellence.
In 1981, Dr. Lyons returned to his hometown of Burlington, Iowa to open an ENT practice. He is on staff at the Great River Medical Center, and has been Chief of Surgery Service and Chief of Staff for the hospital.
He is a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery. In addition, Dr Lyons was past President of the Iowa Academy of Otolaryngology 1992-1995 and is currently a specialty consultant with the Iowa Board of Medical Examiners.
